  • Three years ago Solheim Cup golfer, Melissa Reid, lost her mother in a tragic car crash in Munich on the way to watch Melissa in a LPGA European Tour event. On Tuesday (September 15) Melissa Reid spoke abot the tragedy and how she hopes to move on this week at the Solheim Cup in Germany.

Script: SOUNDBITE (English) Melissa Reid, Europe:

(on playing her first Solheim Cup since the death of her mother)

"The girls have been great, not just in recent times but, you know, from two or three years ago - all the girls that are in the team now, you know. It's always been a tough place for me to come back to, I haven't come back here really. I tried to play Germany a couple of years after and I just didn't want to be there. So this is the week to kind of make fresh memories, that's why it's very important for me that my dad came out, so my dad's coming out on Thursday. My brother and sister and their families are coming out tomorrow and also a few of my friends. So, basically I wanted as many people here as possible, that's kind of helped me through this and obviously Kevin (Craggs, her coach) is going to be here as well and his family. So it's not just going to be a special week for me but a very special week for everybody else that's been involved in the recent times, I guess, and be part of this whole journey and hopefully this will be a week to remember and positive memories being here."

    SOUNDBITE (English) Suzann Pettersen, Europe:

"For the team it makes a huge difference because they bring so much energy, feistiness. They all want to go out there compete, win and I think it's great. It's been a great transition but I mean this is my eighth but these youngsters, these kids keeps us on our tippy-toes."
