Volleyball World Cup: USA march on

Thursday, September 10 2015 by SNTV
  • USA continue their winning start at the Volleyball World Cup with a 3-1 win against hosts Japan in Hiroshima.

Script: After winning their opening Group 1 matches both hosts Japan and the USA were hoping to maintain 100 percent starts here in Hiroshima.

The Americans took the first set 25-23 but the home fans were enjoying it again as Japan hit back to take the next 25-21.

The third set was one sided with the States winning by a 13 point margin and the fourth was almost as dominant they took that one by eleven for a 3-1 win.

Someone's o also had to go when Russia faced Poland in Hamamatsu. The latter's undefeated record looked in threat when Russia took the first 28-26.

But the Poles hit back reversing that score in the second set and taking the third 25-19. They had match point at 24-22 in the fourth but would have to wait until an official review declared them winners.

By contrast to the other matches Canada and Egypt were looking for their first wins and couldn't be separated in the first four sets. Ahmed Abdelhay's 36 points for the African side would not be enough as Canada took the decider 15-12. They face the United States next.
