The first athletes to represent Great Britain at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games have been announced in London, England.

Script: They're the first eight athletes named in Great Britain's team for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Sailors across various disciplines.

Finn Class representative Giles Scott has been waiting almost a decade for this occassion.

"To hit this milestone is huge really, a great honour and it brings the excitement of the Olympic Games one year away that little bit closer."

Windsurfer Bryony Shaw is preparing to compete at her third Olympics.

SOUNDBITE Bryony Shaw, windsurfer

"I think Rio is going to be a unique Games, in that we are right in amongst the city. We're right there for sailing. Whereas previous games have been satellite venues. So, I think again there'll be an added atmosphere."

But there are still concerns amongst the sailors about the water pollution at their competition venue.

"It does pose its challenges, it is an issue and yes it does affect us, but unfortunately it's something that we as sailors just have to deal with."

Team GB Chef de Mission Mark England is hopeful the athletes will continue the success of London 2012.

SOUNDBITE Mark England, Team GB Chef de Mission:

"We're setting our pillar out as great preparation, great support and what we think is if we put our preparation as it should be, as it could be and as it hopefully will be, we think the medal table will take care of itself through great ahtletes here today and great performances from them."
