Kevin Pietersen announced on Tuesday (8 September) is returning to where it all started after signing a short-term contract to play Twenty20 cricket for his former team in South Africa.

"It is a wonderful opportunity to play in Durban again. Obviously Durban holds a special place in my heart and having grown up there. I think the secret was let out of the bag somewhere over the weekend cause some of my buddies have been on to me in saying, 'are you playing for Rovers before.' It is going to be a pretty special time for me, I've got a lot of family and friends there, my closest buddies are there. So, it is exciting. It came about through my real good friendship with Graeme Smith now. Biff's been talking to me about this for a long time."

"Exciting cricket, winning cricket and obviously I want to contribute on the field. But as I say around all the global tournaments I play now it is about giving back to the youngsters and helping youngsters and developing youngsters in their game. Because I know as a youngster when I played around international players while I was still making my way into the game it gave me great confidence and belief. And also helped me watch how these guys trained and did their business. So hopefully I'll put on a good show in terms of my training and my meticulous way that I go about my business."

"We have only signed now for two weeks. I've got the Big Bash which is in December which I have got to get too. So the winter time is a very, very busy time. They have tried to get me here in a different capacity for the England tour, but unfortunately I've got other commitments. So this summer, or your summer, it'll just be the two weeks and then we will have to have a chat and I don't know, if I get five first balls they won't want me back."
