The record-breaking Olympian, together with Charlie Robertson continued his resurgence in motorsport.

They secured the LMP3 title with a round to spare, thanks to their third class win of the season aboard their works Team LNT Ginetta-Nissan.

They had an easy run to victory after Gaetan Paletou spun out of the lead in the second of the LNT cars - something that doesn't seem to have sunk in yet for Hoy.

    SOUNDBITE - Chris Hoy

"Amazing, yeah. I am just genuinely stunned by it all. We did not even consider that we could win the championship this weekend. It was always about Estoril. And we came here and just focused on our own job and obviously really bad luck with the other LNT car, which meant that we just had to finish the race in first and we would seal the championship. And Charlie did an incredible first half of the race. I was just told to stay off the kerbs, just drive steady. Which is quite a hard thing to do, just drive steady - you always want to attack. But Charlie did such an amazing job. The whole team were up until 3am last night working on the car. It was a massive team effort, as always. And just delighted that we are European Le Mans Series champions."
