The 95th edition of the Brussels Cycling Classic - formerly known as Paris-Brussels - was held on Saturday.
The 25 competing teams followed a 200.8-kilometre course that headed out south from central Brussels before looping back up to the northwest of the Belgian capital.
Jelle Wallays, Sebastien Delfosse and Kevin Van Melsen attacked the peloton after 20 kilometres and went clear.
The Belgian trio were soon joined by Daniil Fominych of Kazakhstan and Italian Alessandro Malaguti.
The five-man group increased their advantage over the peloton to six minutes before the main bunch began their response.
With the lead dropping, Wallays and Malaguti attacked the breakaway group and pulled away from the other three riders.
But they were caught inside the final 35 kilometres and several further attacks followed, with Frederik Backaert and Daan Myngheer going clear.
However, they were swept up by the peloton with eight kilometres to go and the leading teams jostled for position at the front, preparing for a sprint finish.
Belgian Roy Jans held the lead in the closing metres, but Dutch rider Dylan Groenewegen finished strongly and claimed victory by mere inches.
Jans' compatriot Tom Boonen, who won the race in 2012, completed the podium places.
It's Groenewegen's second major victory of the season, following last month's Arnhem-Veenendaal Classic in the Netherlands.
