Santos disappointed with France draw

  • Reaction from coaches Didier Deschamps and Fernando Santos following France's friendly away to Portugal on Friday (4 September) when a superb late free-kick from Mathieu Valbuena handed France a 1-0 victory.

Script: SOUNDBITE (Portuguese): Fernando Santos, Portugal coach:

"We didn't managed to score. France scored from a free kick and ended up wiNning the match. A victory is always a victory but in my view a draw would have been a fair result. Now we have to think about the match against Albania and reflect on how we played this match. In my opinion we did well during some moments of this match and we have to correct what we did wrong to achieve our goal which is to win the match against Albania."

SOUNDBITE (French): Didier Deschamps, France coach:

"Yes, we had four (chances to score) and Portugal none. Were we timid? Yes, because our opponent forced us to be in good shape and to be energetic. We didn't do so well when recovering the ball in the first pass. During the second half we had better control but there are still things we have to change. It's true that the position of Paul Pogba was a bit too far back on the pitch during the first half but when he went to middfield we managed to put pressure on them, especially on (defender) Danilo Pereira, and then we had better control."
