Jermaine Jones back in play for CONCACAF games

  • SuggestedLeadIn: American midfielder Jermaine Jones spoke about his return to the US international squad and the upcoming fixtures against Peru and Brazil on Monday (31st August).

Script: Friendlies against Peru and Brazil mark the final preparation games, before the October 10th playoff against Mexico. A match that will decide if the US can secure a place at the 2017 Confederations Cup.

The squad gathered in Washington DC ahead of their game with Peru in the capital.

One of the players returning to the squad after a long absence is midfielder Jermaine Jones. Having missed spells of the season through injury, he was glad to be back with his national team mates.

" I'm always happy to come and represent my country. I'm happy and it's good to be here, yeah."

Jones had played all 4 US games at the World Cup in Brazil and looks forward to proving what the US can achieve:

"I think the whole team, the whole staff, no one is happy about what we did at the World Cup. We have a chance on October the 10th to fix it and now that's the goal. We have two games against Peru and Brazil. I think we see them differently than other friendlies. We've started in the camp now to look forward to the game against Mexico."

And for head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, these friendlies are being viewed as a last chance for the players to prove the point that they want to be at the Rose Bowl for that decisive game in Los Angeles
