"I had a lot of personal plans and aims at Schalke in recent times but I was then unfortunately hampered by an injury last year. This injury took me almost half a year (to recover from) and this was not an easy time for me. But I think, speaking in general and notwithstanding the injury, I haven't developed there (at Schalke) in the last two years as I would have originally wished. A bit of a stalemate as other people have sometimes said. And that is why I thought that I needed a bit of a change of air and I have informed the club (Schalke) relatively early about this, so that everything was clear (between the club and me) with regard to me and my future. It was probably not ideal that this transfer took time until the very last day, but this was also due to the end of the relationship between Kevin de Bruyne and VfL Wolfsburg. It is a new environment for me here, it is the first time that I will be away from home, away from the environment that I am used to. So, that is why I think that I can grow here personally in all fields."

"VfL Wolfsburg wants to develop further and this is also my personal aim. This means we want to continue to chase FC Bayern, that's clear. We do of course know that this is all but easy, but we want to do everything for this. And I think my time with Bayern was a very nice and beautiful story. I have played there in the past three years, played a lot of games and I have won a lot of titles with the team. But now this is over and I am not part of the Bayern story anymore and I must look forward now. And now I will give everything for Wolfsburg every day and every week in order to help and support my new colleagues and to win the Championship (Bundesliga)."
