  • SuggestedLeadIn: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady attended last-minute settlement talks between the NFL and its players' union on Monday (31st August) before a judge announced he would decide the dispute over deflated footballs with a ruling this week.

Script: Following months of accusations, suspensions, court hearings and appeals, it appears that the Deflategate saga is finally coming to an end.

NLF Commissioner Roger Goodell and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady appeared before US District Judge Richard Berman in a hearing on Monday.

Incredibly that hearing lasted less than five minutes.

Berman had previously ordered that both parties reach a settlement, when Goodell and Brady appeared in court, no such agreement had been reached.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jay Feeley, Member of Executive Committee of the NFL Player's Association:

"We want to thank the court. We tried our best to reach a settlement, which we did not reach. But I think for us it reinforces the desire and the need for an independent arbitrator in these matters of personal conduct. We understand Tom's position and I think the process will work itself out. Thank you."

The controversy dates back to the AFC Championship Game in January between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.

Brady wants the suspension nullified, the NFL is seeking confirmation that it handled the"Deflategate" case fairly.

Now Judge Berman has finally announce that he will rule on the car in the coming week finally putting an end to a saga that dates back seven months.
