SuggestedLeadIn: Club Brugge thrashed Standard Liege 7-1 in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday (30 August).

Script: Club Brugge bounced back from a 7-1 aggregate defeat against Manchester United in midweek, by thrashing Standard Liege in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday by the same score.

Abdoulay Diaby gave Brugge the lead after seven minutes, a lead which was doubled when Ruud Vormer netted on 31 minutes following a poor clearance from Liege goalkeeper Yohann Thuram.

Standard had hope of a comeback when Ivan Santini headed home but that hope was quickly extinguished by two goals in little over two minutes.

The first from Mamadou Obbi Oulare, the other from Diaby - to send Brugge into the break 4-1 ahead.

The 13 time Belgian Champions put a gloss on the scoreline with three more goals in the second half.

A header from Brazilian Claudemir, before Diaby netted his third and fourth strikes of the day to complete the 7-1 rout.
