Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova beats fellow Czech Lucie Safarova to claim her third Connecticut Open title.

Petra Kvitova defeated Fed Cup team-mate Lucie Safarova to win the Connecticut Open in three sets.

The defending champion came from a set down to triumph 6-7 6-2 6-2 and lift her third title in New Haven after victories in 2012 and 2014.

Safarova didn't face a break point in the first set, which she claimed after a tie-break.

The French Open runner-up couldn't maintain her performance level in the second and went on to be broken by Kvitova.

The second seed won another break point before clinching victory and the 17th WTA title of her career.

In the home of Yale University it's straight As for Kvitova, who wins the same WTA tournament on three occasions for the first time.

After a disappointing middle of the season when she was hampered by mononucleosis, the world number five will head to next week's US Open with renewed vigour.
