  • Reaction after Stoke City sank to a 1-0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday (29 August) in a match that saw Stoke have two men sent off in the space of six first-half minutes on ex-Potters boss Tony Pulis' maiden return to the Britannia Stadium.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Tony Pulis, West Bromwich Albion head coach:

"Yeah, very much so. Like I said...the first half when the players were sent off I thought we did okay. I thought Salomon (Rondon) scored a great goal. When it was 11 against 11 they looked the better side. They looked more threatening - although we probably had the best chance of (James) Morrison's which (Jack) Butland has made an unbelievable save. Right behind that, how he has kept that out - a really remarkable save."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Tony Pulis, West Bromwich Albion head coach:

"Yeah it was a wonderful reception. I have just said, you know, that Peter (Coates) paid me to do a job and I did the job and the respect that you get - or I got today - is just special. They are a special lot, it's a special club."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mark Hughes, Stoke City manager:

"Red cards? First one it is that old thing - letter of the law. If you raise your hands then you have to go but if that is the case then both of the players should have gone."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mark Hughes, Stoke City manager:

"I think common sense should have prevailed and the referee should have just taken a big deep breath and thought about the game itself and the 28,000 people here hoping to see a good football match. Thankfully that is what they did by virtue of the efforts of my team. If they hadn't stuck at it and hadn't shown great desire and drive and fitness levels...if they hadn't have showed all that then we would have gone under very very quickly but we were still very much in the game right up until the last minute. So I am really proud of what they produced under difficult circumstances."
