World number one Serena Williams beats third seed Simona Halep to win the Cincinnati Masters.

Marriage may not be on her agenda but the American is on track to keep her vow of winning a calendar Grand Slam at the US Open.

Williams was broken in the first service game of the match but the world number one went on to achieve the first of two breaks before winning the opening set.

Halep threatened early in the second by earning three break points in the opening game against a strangely subdued Williams.

The Wimbledon champion found herself a break down again in the tie-break but it proved the catalyst to victory.

The 33-year-old sparking into life as she broke back before dominating at the net.

An error by the new world number two then handed a 69th singles crown to Williams.

"It feels good to be able to win here in Cincinnati again. I felt I started out the week slow and then I lost last week and I was really down in myself and put a lot of pressure to just kind of win some matches and now I've won the Championship and it feels really good."

"... honestly I feel like getting to the 'Serena Slam' enables me to be able to relax into getting to the Grand Slam. And if not, honestly I would like to win the (US) Open more than anything..."

The French champion now heads to Flushing Meadows where she'll hope to complete her 2015 major clean sweep.

If Williams does become king of the hill with her 22nd Grand Slam in New York, you can be sure it'll start spreading the news.
