  • Virat Kohli clinched his first Test win as India captain on Monday (24 August) after Sri Lanka crumbled to a 278-run defeat on the final day in Colombo.

Script: SOUNDBITE (English): Virat Kohli, India captain:

"It is pretty satisfying, especially knowing that we came pretty close twice before. Once in Adelaide and Galle as well, I think. We have spoken about that, having won six sessions in the game you usually expect your side to win the game. But I think that game hurt us in the right way. Commendable effort by all the boys to regroup themselves after a loss like that, knowing that we should have won the game. I think it is a tremendous effort to get yourself together, put in the same kind of practice and play the same way again and actually capitalise and improve on that particular situation that we failed to in the first Test. So it shows that the guys are keen to improve, hungry to win and I think as the captain that is very, very satisfying."

    SOUNDBITE (English): Angelo Mathews

(on Kumar Sangakkara) "Yes, it is extremely disappointing because he has been an elder brother to me and my team. And over the past eight-odd years that I have played with him, he has been unbelievably supportive. And I am really thankful for what he has done to me and as a team. And he deserved to go off on a high and on a win. But really disappointed that we couldn't do it for him. But all we can do is promise to play well for him in the next game and try and win the Test match and the series for him."
