Script: Roger Federer defeated Andy Murray in straight sets to book a Cincinnati Masters final against world no. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Murray endured gruelling three-set matches in the last two rounds and had spent more than twice as much time on court as the Swiss in the tournament.

So it was no surprise when the Briton lost this long rally to hand Federer the opening set.

More hard running ensued in the second with Federer toying with his opponent like a cat with string.

The 34-year-old sealed a 6-4 7-6 success in emphatic fashion to gain a measure of revenge for being deposed as world number two by the Scot this week.

Top seed Djokovic came from behind to beat Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov 4-6 7-6 6-2.

The Serbian trailed by a set and needed a medical timeout in the second.

Djokovic was then within two points of defeat but won three successive points to take the second-set tie-break and went on to secure victory in two hours 20 minutes.
