Wawrinka speaks about Kyrgios following win

  • Stan Wawrinka came from a set down to beat Croatian youngster Borna Coric in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters on Wednesday (19th August) before saying he had received support from other players following Nick Kyrgios' infamous girlfriend sledge in Montreal.

    Script: This was only the second time that Stan Wawrinka and Borna Coric had met and this was here in the second round of Cincinnati.

    The young Croat had lost the only previous meeting, however was ahead early on with a break and consolidated that.

    The 18-year-old went on to take the first set 6-3.

    The second went on serve into the tenth game.

    Coric showed some steel and forced a tiebreak, only for Wawrinka to take that.

    The deciding looking like being a battle royale, however Wawrinka exerted his know-how and progressed comfortably in the end with a 6-3 scoreline.

    Afterwards, Wawrinka revealed he had received plenty of support from other players in the locker room after being taunted by Nick Kyrgios in Montreal.

    "Honestly, I've had a lot of support...a lot of anger in the locker room for what he did. As I say, I think as a player you realise more what he did and what the consequence for a private life, for a person involve in that case."

    Thanasi Kokkinakis was the man mentioned in the Kyrgios sledge.

    He lost a first-set tiebreak to Richard Gasquet who had knocked out his fellow Australian in the previous round.

    The Frenchman turned on the style in the second set, taking it 6-2 to reach round three where he will face defending US Open champion Marin Cilic.
