Wood: "I never ever want to forget that moment"

Wednesday, August 19 2015 by SNTV
  • SuggestedLeadIn: On the day when England football manager Roy Hodgson was invited to talk to the England cricket team, Mark Wood knows he may have to give way to the returning James Anderson for England's Ashes victory lap at The Oval - the 25-year-old is acutely aware too that he is living with the threat of surgery on his chronic ankle problem, on a match-by-match basis.

Script: SOUNDBITE (English): Mark Wood, England fast bowler:

"I never ever want to forget that moment (taking Nathan Lyon's wicket in the fourth Test to seal Ashes victory), ever, and we still talk about it in the dressing room with the lads. And it's actually good to watch it on TV and actually realise what happened because I forgot half of the stuff after I took wicket. The amount of screaming and jumping around. So it was actually nice to watch it."

SOUNDBITE (English): Mark Wood, England fast bowler:

"I got a phone call (from captain Alastair Cook) saying that "look, brilliant, well done, but let's make this 4-1." And if it was the other way round, I am sure Australia wouldn't give us an easy ride. So, of course, the celebrations will be after the game. But we have got to prepare like every other game."

SOUNDBITE (English): Mark Wood, England fast bowler:

"Jimmy's (Anderson) got 400 Test wickets and he's England's lead bowler. So if he's fit and he's ready to go ... he had a bowl yesterday (Monday) and seemed fine. I am going to prepare how I prepare every other game and that is then out of my hands - it is up to management. But Jimmy is a fantastic bowler. I am sure everyone would want him in that side. So if he's fit and ready to go then it looks like like he'll get the nod. But I'll prepare as I have done every other game."

SOUNDBITE (English): Mark Wood, England fast bowler:

"Someone that has done a huge amount for Australian cricket and someone that I, before the series, I obviously looked up to as a fan of the game. This series I have obviously come up against him and had to do my job which is try and get him out. So this game will be no different. Be trying to get him out again. But there will be that respect there because he is a fantastic player who has had a fantastic career."
