Organisers look ahead to Rugby World Cup

  • Script: SOUNDBITE: (English) Brett Gosper, World Rugby chief executive:

"We're most looking forward to the competition on the field. We've done everything to make sure it's the most competitive World Cup and that the winning margins will be lower, that the Tier Twos may create some surprises. But we're looking for a very competitive World Cup, a great experience for the players and a great experience all over for the fans so it really is about the rugby."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ian Ritchie, Rugby Football Union CEO:

"I think we're very confident. You've got to have belief and I think we're right to have it, and I think that the training, the preparation, obviously talking to the coaches and the squad as to where they are, I think they're in a decent place. We all know, however, with world class elite sport that it's challenging. But I think it's very important as well that the country gets behind us and I think the support will be phenomenal for the event and I think the players appreciate that. So we need to take the most of being at home, playing most of our matches here at Twickenham, so I think we're in a good place but and we know there's a lot of work to do."

    Q - Tough group though.

"It is a tough group but you get what you're given and you just need to get on and deal with that so we're prepared for that, we're planning for that and you've got to embrace it. And I'm very sure that the players and the coaches will do so."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Stephen Brown, England Rugby 2015 chairman and managing director:

"In the cities we'll have fan zones. Obviously not everyone can get a ticket - 2.4 million people will but not everyone will, there'll be millions of people that don't - but they've got an opportunity to come and experience the tournament, and the fan zones will be great. There'll be some live screenings of matches, there'll be lots of activities going on, there'll be bars and food stalls."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Stephen Brown, England Rugby 2015 chairman and managing director:

"So the roof's going to be lit, which is quite different, so that it will visible from the flight path - because obviously we're on the flight path for Heathrow. So that will really light up the skyline of London as people come in. The London Eye's going to have the colours and the flags of the 20 participating nations plus some other imagery from the World Cup and that's going to be a real central London visual point for people visiting the city."
