Bizarre! It's golf with a twist

  • SuggestedLeadIn: With 18 holes played in just 34 minutes and four seconds, Rob Hogan or Ireland was crowned the British Open Speedgolf champion on Sunday (16th August).

Script: Anybody who plays golf knows that it can go from being the most gratifying to the most frustrating sport in the blink of an eye.

Concentration and patience are key in golf, but at the Dale Hill Golf Club, those were both thrown out the window...

This is Speedgolf, where the skill lies in balancing pace with accuracy.

30 competitors took to the course to battle it out for the British Open, where the score of the round is summed with the time it takes to play 18 holes.

Rob Hogan triumphed in the men's event putting in a quite spectacular performance, he shot a round of 77, a score Tiger Woods might be pleased with of late...

However, he completed his round in just 34 minutes and four seconds, giving him a total score of 111.04, just shy of the Speedgolf world record.

In the ladies' category, it was a local who took top honours.

Emma Morgan achieved a personal best of 88 in 64 minutes and 22 seconds giving her a score of 152.22.

While this sport of golf with a twist is unlikely to ever take off in terms of popularity, there is no doubt the skill of those competing can be appreciated.
