'Surfing return great' - shark-attack Fanning

Monday, August 17 2015 by SNTV
  • Australian surfer Mick Fanning discusses his return to competition in Tahiti, French Polynesia, less than a month after he was attacked by a shark at the J-Bay Open.

Script: SOUNDBITE: (English) Mick Fanning, Australian surfer:

"Yeah it was great to get back in the singlet and just sort of focus on surfing again. There's sort of been so much hype about the incident in J-Bay and so much media attention, and I just wanted to just move on. You know, it happened, so we'll talk about it later, maybe stories when I'm old, but it was good just to get back in the singlet. It was really tough out there and there wasn't too many opportunities and I lucked out with just a five and a six and it was enough, really."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mick Fanning, Australian surfer:

"Yeah I feel pretty confident. I guess there's so much that goes into a world title - there's luck of the waves, you've got to be 'on' at all times, and then you've got equations with your other competitors. But I guess you just focus on yourself and you just try and do the right things at the right time. That's all you can really do, really. And then everywhere else, here, and then for the end of the year... you know, I love every spot on tour, so it's not like I'm going anywhere and freaking out."
