Bonhomme sets fastest time at Red Bull Air Race qualifying

  • SuggestedLeadIn: Paul Bonhomme delighted the home crowd at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday (15th August) by setting the fastest time in qualifying for the Red Bull Air Race.

Script: The famous Ascot Racecourse in England played host to a slightly more unorthodox event this weeked - the latest round of the Red Bull Air Race.

Qualifying took place on Saturday and it was Martin Sonka of the Czech Republic initially taking the lead.

However, he was soon overtaken by Australia's Matt Hall, who ended up second ahead in the end, leaving Sonka in third.

And despite having stated his discontent about the head-to-head qualification format in deciding the final four, Britain's Paul Bonhomme delighted the home crowd by setting the fastest time of the day. His impressive result means he currently leads the overall standings, and hopes to extend his advantage over Austrian Hannes Arch.

And at the Challenger Cup, it was Czech pilot Petr Kopfstein who took victory, ahead of Chile's Cristian Bolton and Daniel Ryfa of Sweden. He is now level with Ryfa at the top of the overall standings with three rounds remaining.
