  • Canadian Milos Raonic crashes out while compatriot Vasek Pospisil marches on, in the late action from Montreal on Tuesday (11th August).

Milos Raonic made his return to the tennis court after a five week absence due to a foot injury, with a second round Rogers Cup match against the Ivo Karlovic on Tuesday.

And he was in for a tough test against the strong-serving Karlovic as he was forced to fend off ten break points in total.

While Raonic has earned something of a reputation as a tie-break specialist, he was no match for the Croatian on this occasion.

A couple of wayward forehands in the first set tie-break helped Karlovic to build up momentum and he duly went on to win it 7-1.

Karlovic pushed on from there, recording his 10,000th career ace during a second set that continued to be dominated by serve.

Again Raonic faded badly in the tie-break, and Karlovic duly booked his place in the third round with a 7-6 (1), 7-6 (1) win.

Fellow Canadian - and former Rogers Cup semi-finalist - Vasek Pospisil played his first round match on Tuesday.

He was up against Yen-hsun Lu of Taiwan, who paid heavily for a slow start as his opponent cruised into a commanding 3-0 first set lead.

Lu fought back admirably before Pospisil took the set 6-4.

The Canadian went on to open out an impressive 5-2 40:0 second set lead, and the result seemed to be a certainty.

But he squandered several match points before eventually closing it out, reaching the second round with a 6-4 6-3 victory.
