Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic battled to a three-set win over home player Eugenie Bouchard on Tuesday (11 August) in the first round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada.

Dominika Cibulkova advanced to the second round of the Rodgers Cup on Tuesday (11 August) following a straight sets win over Sloane Stephens in Toronto, Canada.

Eugenie Bouchard playing at her home tournament here in Toronto faced someone three years her junior in Belinda Bencic.

Bouchard's torrid 2015 looked to be continuing early on when she was a double break down in the first set.

As the 18-year-old Bencic went into a 4-love lead.

She saw the set out to love in close to half an hour and again led 3-love before Bouchard showed some fight.

The Canadian coming back to take the set 7-5.

However, Bencic continued Bouchard's terrible run this year which has seen her drop from the World No. 7, down to her current ranking of twenty-five

And here at a double break and double match point found the line to move into the second round of the Rogers Cup.

She'll now face Caroline Wozniacki.

Elsewhere, Dominika Cibulkova took on Sloane Stephens who arrived in Toronto on a high having won her first career title on Sunday (9 August) in Washington, D.C.

However, she was up against a highly charged Cibulkova who dictated play early on.

Stephens even losing her cool when she dropped her serve losing the first set.

Cibulkova continued to control things and at 5-4 up an unforced error from the American gave Cibulkova the win.

She'll now play Alize Cornet of France.
