Safarova dumped out of Toronto by Gavrilova

  • Intro:

Daria Gavrilova knocked out seventh seed Lucie Safarova in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto on Wednesday (August 12).

    Script:

This year's French Open finalist Lucie Safarova faced Daria Gavrilova in Toronto.

And it looked to be a one-sided affair in favour of the Czech player.

Safarova took the first set 6-4 and it all looked to be going to plan for the World No.7

However Gavrilova responded taking the second set 7-5 and appeared galvanised by levelling up the match with a player ranked 33 places above her in the world,.

The Russia produced a mixture of topspin and drop shots from the baseline, and the change of pace seemed to disturb Safarova.

The seventh seed eventually wilted as Gavrilova records a famous victory 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.

She'll now play Roberta Vinci after a 2 and a half hour battle.
