  • Kei Nishikori of Japan comes from a set down to beat American John Isner 4-6 6-4 6-4 in the Washington Open final.

Kei Nishikori came from a set down to beat big-serving American John Isner 4-6 6-4 6-4 in the Washington Open final.

6ft 10in Isner secured the only break of the first set in the last game.

Nishikori responded by going on to open the second set with a break.

The second seed then went on to hold serve five times and force a deciding third set.

Isner received treatment on his right shoulder earlier in the match and Nishikori capitalised by winning break point.

    Before sealing victory.

Revenge was sweet for Nishikori, who was knocked out of the Miami Open quarters by Isner in April.

The Japanese star says his 'mental strength' was key to victory:

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Kei Nishikori:

"It's not the best way to win but I still fought through these three matches... and I'm happy to win in the final today."

Lifting the trophy earns Nishikori just over £221,000 and a move from fifth to fourth in the world rankings.
