England's Ashes win 'special' - Bayliss

Monday, August 10 2015 by SNTV
  • England head coach Trevor Bayliss and Australia counterpart Darren Lehmann reflect on England's resounding Ashes triumph.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Trevor Bayliss, England head coach:

"Yeah, certainly. Looks, I'm not going to gloat - in front of them anyway. I know how much they will be hurting in that changing room. To be honest, especially when the boys took that last wicket, and the lap of honour, certainly the hairs on the back of the neck were standing up which is a good sign."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Trevor Bayliss, England head coach:

"It's certainly part of it and I think if you look around the world, in the last few years, there's very few of the away teams actually go there and win. That's a challenge for any international team will be to win away - that's the most difficult so... I think that's the way it should be - the opposition team comes and has to play in the conditions that most suit the home team. And certainly I think as we saw with the wickets that move around a bit, seam, and obviously a bit more swing over here as well, is that some of the techniques were tested with the Australian boys. From an English point of view, you've still got to be able to put the ball in the right spot. So to be able to do that and the skill they showed to do that with the movement they were able to extract out of the wicket was a fantastic effort."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Darren Lehmann, Australia head coach:

"We certainly didn't cope with the swinging or seaming ball in the last two Test matches well enough and that's something we've got to get better at, we know that. Our preparation was fine, I can't complain about the work ethic from the lads either. They've been fantastic. We've got outskilled by a very good cricket team in England."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Darren Lehmann, Australia head coach (on Steve Smith):

"He did a great job in a caretaker role during the summer for us under really tough circumstances with Phillip Hughes and I thought Michael and him did that brilliantly throughout the summer for us so I think he'll grow and be a really good leader. He'll be aggressive as all Australian captains have been but I think he'll work out what works for him on and off the field the best."
