  • Feliciano Lopez and John Isner advanced to the third round of the Citi Open on Wednesday (5th August).

Feliciano Lopez ended Lleyton Hewitt's last appearance at the Citi Open with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 second-round victory over the two-time major champion.

The seventh-seeded Lopez wound up with a 44-23 edge in winners, including 15 aces, in the 2-hour, 10-minute match.

Lopez lost his first four career matches against Hewitt but now has won the past two. Hewitt is a former No. 1 player who has said he will retire after January's Australian Open and received a wild-card entry into Washington's hard-court tuneup for the U.S. Open.

Next for Lopez is a match against Sam Groth, who eliminated ninth-seeded Viktor Troicki 6-3, 6-4.

Meanwhile, John Isner hit 17 aces, won 37 of 40 first-serve points and moved into the third round of the Citi Open by beating Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic 6-3, 7-6 (5).

Isner, seeded eighth at the hard-court tuneup for the U.S. Open, compiled a 26-9 edge in winners and never faced a break point, powering serves that regularly topped 130 mph.
