Stuart Broad and Michael Clarke reflect on day one of fourth Ashes Test

Friday, August 07 2015 by SNTV
  • Reaction after a barely believable opening day in the fourth Ashes Test between England and Australia at Trent Bridge

SOUNDBITE (English) Stuart Broad, England all rounder:

"It's not really sunk in. I keep seeing the scoreboard pop up on the TV or look at the scoreboard on the ground and it doesn't look real to me at the moment. It's a bit of a freak day I suppose. It's what you work hard for, it's what you train for. You want those moments where it all works for you and today was one of those days."

SOUNDBITE (English) Stuart Broad, England all rounder:

"Cooky said at the end of the day's play 'let's enjoy the next hour in the changing room, we've had a fantastic day - probably one of the best days England has had in the Ashes ever - but let's reset for tomorrow'. Because Australia will fight back, that's the sort of characters they are and we want to try and bat them out of the game. The wicket when the sun came out got flatter and scoreboard pressure will be vital for us in that third innings."

Australia captain Michael Clarke enters the news conference

SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain:

SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain (Australia's first innings)

"There's no doubt we didn't bat well, but like I say they were very good conditions to bowl in. That's as tough batting conditions as I've faced in my career, but in saying that you still have to have the skill and the class to be able to put the ball in the right area and then hang onto those chances when the ball hits the edge. So take nothing away from Stuart (Broad) and England."

SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain:

    (On the day's play)

"Nothing went right at all today, that's for sure. The situation of the series, knowing before the Test match it was our Grand Final, but also as captain you need to be as positive as you can be and understand it's day one down of the Test match. There's still a lot of time left in this Test, we've just got to play out of our skins."
