Mayweather ready to square up for final time

Thursday, August 06 2015 by SNTV
  • Floyd Mayweather said on Tuesday (4th August) that he would face Andre Berto on September 12th in what could be the last fight of his career.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will return to the ring for the first time since boxing's richest fight ever, when he taks on Andre Berto on September 12 in what he has said will be his final fight.

The welterweight title bout will not be nearly as lucrative as Mayweather's win Manny Pacquiao in May that earned him a reported $220 million.

Berto, a 2004 Olympian, was once thought of as a rising star but has lost three of his last six fights and Mayweather will be an overwhelming favorite to win for the 49th time in as many fights as a pro.

Mayweather waited until the last possible moment to announce the fight, which will take place at the MGM Grand arena where he won a unanimous decision over Pacquiao two months ago.

The two fighters will get together in Los Angeles on Thursday to promote the bout, which is less than six weeks away.
