Reaction from the Australian and England captains after England thrashed Australia in the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston on Friday (31st July).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain

"England deserve a lot credit for how they bowled, executed really well, and I think the ball swung and seamed the whole day, plenty of wickets taken in three days and yeah, I would have liked a few more runs in the first innings, and when we got a chance to bowl we didn't execute it, we had perfect bowling conditions, overcast, a little bit of rain around, and we couldn't hit the areas consistently."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain

    (on his own form)

"It's always going to be hard to beat any opposition when we only have ten at the moment, that's how it feels with my performance so far, I have not led from the front like I like to do as a captain, I have always made it clear that its big part of my role in this team that I'm making lots of runs and leading by example so, its always going to be difficult when number four is such a critical position, you have to make a lot more runs than I am so far."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alastair Cook, England captain

"I can't really talk about it in terms of what I have done, its down to the other guys who, the 10 other guys have put in a performance of really high quality, they can all be proud of the character they have shown, obviously there is a lot of negativity about our performance last week at Lords, which was justified, but to bounce back showed character and good skill and I am very happy."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alastair Cook, England captain

(on Jimmy Anderson missing the next Test with injury)

"It's disappointing, Jimmy's record in every Test match, and Trent Bridge as well, is brilliant but I said at the beginning of the week about that we have an opportunity as a squad at 1-1 to do something special over the next three games and now its an opportunity for someone, whoever takes his position with the new ball, its an opportunity for them to do something very special, so yes its disappointing, would we like Jimmy to play, yes of course we would, but its an opportunity and we have to look forward to that rather that what could have been."
