Fifth seed Pablo Cuevas won through to round two at the Hamburg Open, but sixth seed Juan Monaco was knocked out by Lucas Pouille in his second-round match on Wednesday (29 July).

Second seed Tommy Robredo lost to Benoit Paire in the second round of the Hamburg Open on Wednesday (29 July), while Fabio Fognini advanced against Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas opened his account at the Hamburg Open with a straight-sets victory over Diego Schwartzman of Argentina.

Cuevas, seeded five and looking to add to his three ATP Tour titles, was tested at times by his fellow South American, but came through 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to face Jerzy Janowicz in round two.

Sixth seed Juan Monaco was another Argentinian casualty on day three, as he was comprehensively outplayed by 21-year-old Frenchman Lucas Pouille.

Pouille, ranked 85th in the world to Monaco's 38th, allowed Monaco just one game in the opening set and wrapped up a 6-1, 7-5 victory with a single break of serve in the second.

And Pouille can now look forward to a match against fellow Frenchman Benoit Paire in the third round.

This after he put an end to econd seed Tommy Robredo's run at the Hamburg Open.

The Frenchman, who already eliminated Philipp Kohlschreiber in Hamburg, recovered from a set down to win 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Paire secured his first ATP Tour singles title at the Swedish Open just last week and will be hoping to add to his title tally in Germany.

Finally, Italian Fabio Fognini, seeded eighth in Hamburg, also needed three sets to overcome Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas and advance to the last eight.

Fognini eventually prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and will next meet British player Aljaz Bedene who put out third seed Roberto Bautista Agut earlier in the day.
