What's faster? Skiier or rally driver?

  • Norwegian sporting icons Aksel Lund Svindal -- who won gold in the super-G skiing event at the 2010 Winter Olympics -- and Andreas Mikkelsen -- one of Volkswagen's drivers in the World Rally Championship -- race each other down a mountain in Lysefjord, south-west Norway.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Aksel Lund Svindal, Ski Racer:

"Well first of all we are both skiers. I mean Andreas is still a skier even though he is a rally driver but he is a skier too and that's are connection from the beginning, that we come from the same sport and that is where we first met and then Norway is a small country, like you said. We are both fairly successful athletes so we work out sometimes in the same places and know a lot of the same people and I think him being interested in skiing and me being interested in Rally then we also watch each others career and see what is going on."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Andreas Mikkelsen, World Rally driver:

"I had great fun having Aksel in the car today so hopefully I can bring him on as a co-driver for one of the events... but he is a bit too heavy so maybe if he loses some weight (laughs) we can put some good stage times on the table."
