Clarke confirms Nevill starts at Edgbaston

  • Australia captain Michael Clarke confirmed on Tuesday (28 July) that Peter Nevill will remain behind the stumps for third Ashes Test in place of Brad Haddin.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain:

(Question: Will Peter Nevill remain as wicket-keeper over Brad Haddin?)

"But I can confirm that Peter Nevill will play tomorrow. Look, I still think - as I said yesterday - I still think Hadds (Haddin) is keen to continue to play cricket for Australia and New South Wales. From the chats I've had with him, he's still working exceptionally hard and will now wait for his opportunity, whether that be through injury or getting selected, getting another chance. He probably sees his role right now as much as him staying as well prepared as he can be to really help Nev (Nevill). He (Haddin) has played in these conditions a lot, toured England a lot, and I think his experience can certainly help Peter Nevill over the next couple of Test matches."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain:

(Question: How confident are you that Chris Rogers will be ok after the dizzy spell that caused his retirement from the second innings at Lord's?)

"I haven't seen Chris this morning - it's now the afternoon, so I haven't seen him today, so I think it's important to see how he pulled up yesterday, but he batted really well in the nets, faced the bowlers, and yesterday he felt comfortably, it's just about seeing how he pulled up today."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain:

"I don't think the guys have been different, whether it be the first Test or the second Test, whether it be against the West Indies or India last summer, or England here, I think we know how we play our best cricket. I think both Test matches have been played in the right spirit. Like I said before, my expectation is that the rest of the series will continue to be played the right way - tough cricket on the field, but certainly respectful. I'm sure this Test will be no different."
