The rain may have continued to fall, but it did little to distract from a memorable final round of the Senior Open at Sunningdale.

Having said his goodbyes at St Andrews last week, Tom Watson bid farewell to Sunningdale in appropriate fashion with a birdie at the final hole.

He shot a final round of 71 to finish in the top 15.

Miguel Angel Jiminez finished in the top four with his final round of 67.

He came close to recording the third albatross of the week at the 14th hole, but the ball clattered off the pin to rest inches from the hole.

Colin Montgomerie was immense early on.

He reached the turn at four-under-par, aided in part by his superb tee shot at the fourth hole.

But back to back bogeys at 11 and 12 saw him relinquish his position at the top of the leaderboard and he was never able to regain top spot.

Bernard Langer put on an impressive defence of the title.

His wonderful shot into the fifth hole was one of the best of his bogey free round of 64, which took him to 15-under-par overall.

But it still wasn't quite good enough on the day.

As Marco Dawson managed to go one better.

Despite having never won a tournament on the PGA Tour, he put on quite the show.

He sank an awkward putt for an eagle two at the par four ninth hole, which proved crucial after bogeys at the sixth and eighth holes.

Birdies at the 11th and 12th holes followed before a superb eagle at the 14th sent him to the top of the leaderboard.

Any pressure he might have been feeling certainly didn't show as he finished in style.

A birdie at the 18th securing the title for him by a single shot.
