We weren't as focused as in Cardiff- Bayliss

  • Intro:

England coach Trevor Bayliss discusses the 405-run thrashing by Australia after the second Test of the Ashes series at Lord's on Sunday (19th July).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Trevor Bayliss, England coach:

"It's big turn around from the first to the second (Test). I suppose you have to take the good with the bad. But we knew that Australia would come back hard at us. And maybe we didn't actually concentrate on what we were doing like we were in Cardiff. In Cardiff, we were very focussed on what our jobs were individually. Maybe we spent a little bit too much time thinking about how hard Australia would come back. So I think going forward to the next game we get back into that mode of worrying about what are doing."

SOUNDBITE (English) Trevor Bayliss, England coach:

"I think that is always a concern. What I will say is that every innings we have been four for 30 or four for 40. I think to get to 300 from where we were - they showed some good character. They have certainly got it in them. A team like Australia when the get on a roll with the bowlers and the attack they have got - it can be devastating. And certainly they were on their game today."

SOUNDBITE (English) Trevor Bayliss, England coach

"We knew that they would come at us hard. The Australians don't take losing lying down. I'm just speculating. After Cardiff, it meant the players were thinking about that. I'm not sure. You would have to ask them but certainly if they did come hard and they did play hard then we've got to do the same next match."
