American Dustin Johnson leads The Open after a rain-hit second day at St Andrews, one shot clear of England's Danny Willett.

    Script:

Dustin Johnson remains favourite for the Claret Jug after enjoying the taste of a one-shot lead during day two of The Open.

The overnight leader is 10-under after 13 holes following birdies at the fourth and seventh.

England's Danny Willett remains the clubhouse leader; carding a three-under 69 for nine-under overall.

The Yorkshireman sank birdies at the 10th and 18th to post an imposing halfway target.

Englishman Luke Donald remains in contention after the former world number one's round of 70 left him four off the lead.

Sir Nick Faldo marked his retirement from competitive golf with a one-under-par 71 as he missed the cut and bowed out at St Andrews.

Sporting the same pastel yellow jumper he wore in his first Open win back in 1987, the 57-year-old stood atop the Swilcan Bridge to acknowledge the applause from the packed galleries.

The Home of Golf also said goodbye to another legend: five-time Open champion Tom Watson. The American signed off with a 12-over-par score and missed the cut.

Play was delayed for more than three hours because of heavy rain, meaning Johnson and 41 others will resume their second rounds on Saturday morning.
