Reaction as Australia move into dominant position on day two

Saturday, July 18 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Reaction after Australia strengthened its grip of the second Ashes test leaving England at 85/4 and 481 first innings runs behind after day two at Lord's.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Mitchell Johnson, Australian fast bowler:

(On if the Australian bowling today might have reminded the England players of the 2012/13 series in which the English struggled)

"I hope so, that'd be nice to have those scars come back out. It was definitely our plan to go hard at Root because it felt like we definitely gave him too many chances in the first test and let him get away from us. So that was definitely a plan to not let him settle and setting fields like we did. It's always nice to go out there and perform and bowl out there at pace because you're not always going to get the conditions that'd you like. So it was nice to just do well."

SOUNDBITE (English) Stuart Broad, England all rounder:

(On the way the test has played out so far)

"It was a massive toss to win, I think everyone accept that. If we'd have won the toss we'd have been 300-odd for not many wickets too. It was a big toss to win, I think the Australians would probably accept that as well. But when you don't (win) the toss you've probably got to bowl better than we did. We didn't create enough pressure throughout that day, but bowled much better today."

SOUNDBITE (English) Stuart Broad, England all rounder:

(On how the team is feeling moving forward in the test)

"There's a lot of hope in that change room that we can certainly save this test match if not get ourselves in a position, but a lot of work will have to be done tomorrow. Hopefully there will be blue skies and we can get past that follow on."
