Reaction from day two of the Open Championship

Saturday, July 18 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

With the help of a birdie on 17, Nick Faldo bid farewell to The Open with a score of 71 on the Old Course at St Andrews on Friday (17th July).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sir Nick Faldo, Three time Open Champion (on it being his last Open):

"I was dying to make the cut for Matthew. That's what I've been trying to do for all these last 10 years, but it's tough. I play two tournaments a year, and you can't -- I can't fall out of a TV tower and really be a golfer. That's pretty darned good. That might be it. If I've just shot 71 and done all that today, I think that might be the -- that might be my last walk.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sir Nick Faldo, Three time Open Champion (on his emotion walking down 18th):

"I don't know what I really said to myself. I was just trying to say, thank you, St. Andrews. That's why I looked at the gods, the St. Andrews golfing gods at 17. I thought, thank you very much for that. I felt beat up yesterday, but that was one of my great moments of any career, making a 3 there and walking the walk. That won't get any better."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Geoff Ogilvy, Five under-par (on playing well down the back nine in the poor conditions):

"Yeah, it's nice to finish that way. 17 is stealing a birdie, really. Just trying to make 4 there if I can, to make a 3 - I hit it a bit further than I wanted to and actually got up onto the green. That's a bit of a bonus. Yesterday it felt like we got the wrong end of the draw, but overall it feels like maybe we're going to end up with the better end of the draw because we didn't have to play in the rain this morning, which was a big result for us. If it was just a little bit less rain and we'd have to play in that, that would have been pretty nasty, but we missed it. Hopefully from our perspective it gets really windy this afternoon and I'll have fun watching it on TV."
