Moeen reflects on good day for England

  • Intro:

Moeen Ali spoke after Australia finished day two of the first Ashes Test in Cardiff on 264-5, 166 runs behind England's first innings score of 430

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Moeen Ali, England all-rounder (on match situation)

"Yeah, some advantage I definitely think that. As you could see, the wickets we got were mainly like caught at cover, caught at mid-wicket and stuff and it's that sort of wicket, I think, where if you just hang in there, you've got a good chance."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Moeen Ali, England all-rounder (on whether he and Joe Root are under-rated by Australia)

"Yeah, 100 percent. I think obviously this series both of us spinners will probably get attacked quite a bit, and you've always got a chance of getting wickets. I don't think it's underestimating, I think it's the nature of the opposition coming at us and you're going to hopefully pick up a couple of wickets on our side obviously. I'm pretty happy with that. It brings me into the game a bit more, I think.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Moeen Ali, England all-rounder (on pressure for his place)

"To be honest with you, I've not thought about it at all. I wasn't...I just turn up and practise hard, prepare well, as much as I can, and if I get selected obviously I'm very happy. And if I don't get selected, I'm also happy for whoever's going to get selected. I just prepare myself to play every game, I'm not too fussed to be honest with you."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Moeen Ali, England all-rounder (on dismissing Steve Smith)

"Yeah, it was a bit of a drag-down really. He kept using his feet at me and I almost went a little bit one-day mode at him - trying to bowl it at his hip, or fire it down the leg-side, and he got himself into a bit of a mess really. But I'm obviously happy at getting him out."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Moeen Ali, England all-rounder (on head coach Trevor Bayliss)

"Yeah, obviously he knows a lot of the guys quite well so he's had an input but a lot of these guys have played against these guys already so input's come from everybody. Trevor's more of a motivator and he's not really said too much really, he's just always encouraging us and telling us to go out and enjoy and play our best cricket."
