The World Wife Carrying Championships celebrated their 20th - or China - anniversary in Sonkajarvi, Finland at the weekend.

As bizarre events go, this is right up there. The 20th World Wife Carrying Championships held in Finland.

Perfect for those couples who are a well built man and a lightweight wife. 

Those not so strong, had other ways to stand out...

SOUNDBITE: (English) Janne and Mirja, Competitors: 

Janne: "When one is not sure about one's strength it would be good that at least you are properly dressed."

Mirja: "And somebody's got to be the last one also!"

This is the classy way to fall into a pool.

Unsuprisingly Janne and Mirja didn't win. More of a shock was that five-time former champion Taisto Miettinen was also not a winner, and he was clearly taking it very seriously. 

Instead the 2015 Wife Carrying Champion is Ville Parviainen who carried his new partner Sari Viljanen around the course with ease. A sure sign surely that's its meant to be.
