Kyrgios's brother 'disgusted' by 'racist' Fraser comments

Tuesday, July 07 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Reaction from Christos Kyrgios, Nick Kyrgios's brother, after Australian swimming great Dawn Fraser tells Kyrgios and Tomic to 'go back where their parents came from'.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Christos Kyrgios, Nick Kyrgios's brother:

"It's disgusting, you know, like fair enough if she thinks the way he played out there for that you know one-game duration was unacceptable in her books, that's fine, say that, you know say 'I didn't like the way he played that match', or 'it wasn't good sportsmanship', fine say that. Don't then go and backhand every sort of ethnic in the country. You know, I took offence to that and I almost felt sorry for my grandparents having to probably going to hear from that from people in the RSL (Returned and Services League) club. She's got no right to say something like that. I think that that's disgusting."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Christos Kyrgios, Nick Kyrgios's brother:

"Look mate, I was born here, I feel I'm more Australian or I'm just as much Australian as anybody else who's here. So, I don't know, it's just disgusting that someone of that calibre and that has that sort of exposure in the media can come out and say something like that. I'm actually embarrassed for Australia as a whole, I can imagine what journalists worldwide and people worldwide are saying about that, you know, let alone not supporting your local talent, to then go on and say basically piss off out of the country to them and their parents and whatever else, yeah it's, I've got no comments really."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Christos Kyrgios, Nick Kyrgios's brother:

"I'm not going to label her a racist. I find those comments very racist. For the last few days I have been hearing a lot of things about oh the way Nick has been acting is un-Australian. This, that, you know, 'bad representation of our country, horrible example for kids in the country,' compare it to that (Fraser's comments), I know how I want my kids to act."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Christos Kyrgios, Nick Kyrgios's brother:

"Yeah, definitely, I think people still forget he was 144 in the world last year, forget he's 20-years-old, he's consistently making fourth rounds and greater of the highest quality tennis, he's playing unbelievable, he should be nothing but proud of himself for the last couple of week's work."
