  • Intro:

Matt Stonie upset Joey Chestnut to win the annual July Fourth hot dog eating contest on Saturday at Nathan's Famous in Coney Island and defending champion Miki Sudo captured the women's division.

    Script:

July Fourth to most of the world and most certainly to Americans, means Independence Day, one of the country's most important holidays.

However, in Coney Island, and more specifically at Nathan's Famous Corporation, it means it's time International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

The event has become tradition in the region and is now policed like any major sporting event would be.

Once the eating began there was a shock on hand as Matt Stonie upset Joey "Jaws" Chestnut to win the men's contest.

Stonie downed 62 hot dogs and buns, beating Chestnut by two and in doing so, ending Jaws' bid for a ninth straight title.

It was a two-horse race the entire way with the next closest competitor only managing to scoff 35 weiners.

While the day proved a success for Stonie, Chestnut was quick to highlight he would be coming back next year more motivated than ever.

And if you're wondering what all those hot dogs might do to you...

According to Nathan's website, and based on the calorie count of one hot dog, Stonie consumed 17,360 calories, 1,116 grams of fat, and 48,360 milligrams of sodium.

Nevertheless, given the fact that Stonie had already defeated Chestnut in the past year in competitions featuring Twinkies, pumpkin pie and gyros, his body might well be getting used to it.
