  • Intro:

Fiji broke the record for the biggest win in international football with a 38-0 defeat of the Federated States of Micronesia on Sunday (5th July), according to organisers of the Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

    Script:

When Micronesia lost their opening group match of the Pacific Games 30-0 to Tahiti, they probably thought it couldn't possibly get any worse.

It turns out, they were wrong...

In a scoreline tournament organisers are claiming is a world record, Fiji put 38 past them on Sunday, needless to say Micronesia failed to score.

Having gone down by 21-0 at half-time, Micronesia opted to put an outfield player in goal, while midfielder Dominic Gada certainly did better, he still conceded a further 17 goals.

Micronesia may well escape the record books as they are not affiliated with FIFA and the squads at the Pacific Games are Under-23s because it doubles as Olympic qualifying.

For the moment, the official record remains Australia's 31-0 drubbing of American Samoa in a World Cup qualifier back in 2001.

Nevertheless, the tournament has been far from fun for the tiny Micronesia, they have so far conceded 68 goals and can still look forward to a final game against Vanuatu
