Max Kieffer leads the French Open on four-under-par after the opening round.

Graeme McDowell has plenty of work to do if he is to win a historic third straight French. This was one of four bogies he made, he is one-over-par. He still has the 18th to play thanks to storms that distrupted the day.

Lee Westwood was going well with two early birdies but also played just 17 holes and ended up two over.

After a wretched couple of weeks this was much better from Martin Kaymer a 69 leaves him two off the lead.

The French crowd will have enjoyed Victor Dubuisson's three-under 68. This led to a birdie on the last.

Gregory Bourdy is another Frenchman in contention, he is one of seven players on two under.

Anirban Lahiri might wonder how he is also in that group and not leading after three birdies and an eagle on a stunning front nine. He'll hope for more of that form on Friday.
