  • Intro:

Last year's beaten semi-finalist Simona Halep and fourth seed Maria Sharapova preview Wimbledon, which starts on Monday.

SOUNDBITE (English) Simona Halep, third seed:

    (Q. Grass, do you think you need an aggressive approach, maybe taking the ball quite early on this kind of surface?)

"Yeah, I think my style, it's like this. I like to play fast, to play close to the baseline, just to take the ball very quickly. I think I'm okay now. I play my style. I play with confidence. I improved a lot in my serve, so can help me now on grass."

SOUNDBITE (English) Simona Halep, third seed:

    (Q. You made the semi-finals here last year. How much confidence does that give you coming into this tournament?)

"Yeah, I can say that I'm pretty confident that I had good result last year. But still is another tournament, another year. So I have to take match by match, to be very focused for what I have to do on court. It's too far to think that I can repeat that result. I just want to play my first round to see how good I can play in that day and trying to win as much as I can."

SOUNDBITE (English) Maria Sharapova, fourth seed:

    (Q. Knowing as you do what it takes to win all four majors, what are your thoughts on Serena having won the first two, and now coming to Wimbledon, perhaps coming to the US Open with a chance, at her age, with her game at this level, to do something we almost never see all in one year?)

"Yeah, absolutely. She's certainly the player to beat. With all the confidence in the world having won the last three majors, not just the two in this year. I think those results speak for herself, and she's certainly the one to beat."

SOUNDBITE (English) Maria Sharapova, fourth seed:

    (Q. What is most remarkable to you about the level of her game at this age and this sustained?)

"I think it always comes down to consistency. It's such a fine line. It's one thing to do it at one event or two events, but in order to have that level to be able to do it consistently I think is pretty incredible."
