English outsider joint leader in BMW International

Friday, June 26 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

World number 564 Daniel Gaunt, Denmark's Lasse Jensen and last year's runner up Rafa Cabrero-Bello all shot seven-under-par rounds of 65 to share the lead after the opening round of the BMW International Open in Munich, Germany.

    Script:

After missing the cut at the US Open last week, the lush course at Eichenried Golf Club in Munich would have come as welcome relief Martin Kaymer.
His poor form on the brown of Chambers Bay appeared to continue here though until he got himself out of trouble on the ninth to set up a birdie.

A level par 72 something to build on tomorrow.

Another former champion here is Henrik Stenson, the Swede would be in the lead had it not been for a triple bogie on the 16th, he made eight birdies on the other holes though to very much keep him in contention.

Stenson is one of five on five under, two strokes off a three-way tie for the lead. Denmark's Lasse Jensen is among them, this was one of three birdies he made on the front nine but his four birdies on the last five holes saw him race up the leaderboard.

He's joined there by last year's runner up Rafa Cabrero-Bello, bogies on the second and eighth were made up for with nine birdies elsewhere.

And England's Daniel Gaunt completes the trio out in front, this birdie on the ninth was the start of four in a row that really got the field taking notice. What a start for the world number 564.
