"Because you are an Olympic sport you find your way onto the curriculum of schools, universities in countries like Brazil, Russia, China, Mexico where normally you wouldn't even be on the radar. So more money in the game, more legitimacy within countries because you're an Olympic sport in terms of curriculum. And then of course the spotlight it provides the sport for that two weeks where you'll reach global area of the world that the sport really has had trouble reaching in the past."

SOUNDBITE (English) Brett Gosper, CEO of World Rugby

"As a new sport there'll be a natural curiosity to our sport. We've competed in mutli-sport games before and done very well. The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, we did two sessions a day at 45,000 people each session. We've succeed well in that environment. In Nanjing at the Youth Olympics we grabbed a lot of attention there too. We're going to be on air, on field for six days - for three consecutive days for women and three consecutive days for men, so twice the normal tournament day program that we would normally have in our own tournament. So we will do our best to create visibility and create interest around the sport. But it is really up to what happens on the field, and hopefully the crowd here in Rio will enjoy what they see."
