    Script:

Friday saw the quarter-finals of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham, the first match-up of the day saw Karolina Pliskova take to the court against Carla Suarez Navarro.

The Czech player dominated her opponent and made light work of the third seeded Spaniard as she powered to a 6-2, 6-2 win.

She will face Kristina Mladenovic in the last four after the French player produced the day's biggest upset.

She was taking on top seed Simona Halep and the match appeared to be a formality for the Romanian as she took the first set 6-2.

However, that was as good as it got, the 22-year-old Mladenovic dominating the second 6-0 before sealing the win on a tie break in the third set.

Next up in Birmingham was world number 10 Angelique Kerber up against 75th-ranked Katerina Siniakova.

And just as the world ranking indicated, Kerber made light work of her opponent, the German was rarely troubled on her way to a 6-2, 6-4 victory.

The win means she set up an all-German semi-final.

This, after Sabine Liscki defeated Daniela Hantuchova in the day's last quarter-final.

Both players had won previously triumphed in Birmingham and the first set proved a tough one, with the German coming out on top 7-5.

In the second however, Kerber's Slovakian opponent never troubled her as she sealed the win and a place in the last four 7-5, 6-2.
