English rider Lizzie Armitstead has been taken to hospital after crashing while celebrating winning the opening stage of the Women's Tour of Britain.

Delight to despair for Lizzie Armitstead,

Just seconds after winning the opening stage of the Women's Tour she appeared to collide with a group of photographers and was sent crashing to the ground.

This then caused a pile-up involving several other riders,

Armitstead had won the stage from Aldeburgh to Bury St. Edmunds but appeared to lose control as she celebrated.

he Commonwealth champion was treated by paramedics and was conscious before being taken to hospital but did have to receive oxygen.

The extent of her injuries is not yet known and there is no suggestion the photographers were situated in the wrong position.
